Frequently asked questions
Quick answers about sworn translation in Brasil.
A sworn translation is a translation produced by a tradutor público e intérprete comercial (TPIC), a sworn public translator who has passed a state examination and is registered with the Junta Comercial (Board of Trade) of a Brazilian state. It carries public faith (fé pública): the translation is legally presumed to be a faithful rendering of the original, the same way a notarised act is presumed authentic. Each translation bears the translator’s registration number, official seal or digital signature, and a sequential record number, and is logged in the translator’s official books.
You need a sworn translation whenever a foreign document must be legally valid for use in Brasil. The most common cases are immigration and visa applications, diploma recognition, Italian or Portuguese citizenship processes, international contracts, and court proceedings. If a government body, notary or consulate is involved, you’ll almost always need a sworn translation.
Sworn translation is priced per page, from R$ 71. Common documents like birth certificates and diplomas cost less than legal or technical texts, which run longer and use more specialised language. Use the instant price calculator on this page to see your exact cost in seconds.

Yes. Every sworn translator we work with is a Tradutor Público Juramentado, examined and registered with a Brazilian Junta Comercial. We have been members of the ATC, the leading association of translation companies in the United Kingdom, since 2024, and we hold ISO 17100 certification for translation quality. Every order also comes with an acceptance guarantee: if the authority does not accept your translation, we refund your payment.
Sworn translation is carried out by a state-examined translator who applies an official stamp, seal and signature. This is what government bodies, notaries, consulates and immigration authorities require. Certified translation is signed by a translator who declares they are competent to translate; they are not required to have a government credential. If you are not sure which you need, choose a sworn translation. It is what is required in Brasil for official purposes.
